16 new lifeguards successfully finished the course and got certified as Lifeguards. 15 men and one woman.   2 from Tambor Beach, 1 from Manzanillo and 13 from Playa Carmen and Santa Teresa.

During the week long course, they studied the values of what it takes to be a lifeguard, learned the theory of prevention, and practiced multiple different techniques for rescuing victims in the water and the adequate use of the equipment.  Also RCP and D.E.A techniques were practiced

During the fourth day of practices, while doing some guided rescue exercises on the beach at the fishermen beach in Mal Pais, the guards had to put in practice their knowledge and rescue a person that on purpose jumped in the water without knowing how to swim, just to proof the skills of the guards.  With no hesitation, the lifeguards got there within seconds and the person was rescued, brought to the beach and stabilized, and did not need further attention or transportation to a medical center.

Another one, this sunday at 5:30 pm a young Costa Rican tourist from San Jose was rescued by Daniel Lujan, Official Lifeguard at Hermosa Tower.  The victim was being pulled by a current close to the rocks, and Daniel attended to the call for help and could bring him in.  Once on the sand, he used techniques to stabilize the victim and let the water come out of his body, but he was almost unconscious, with trouble breathing and low heart beat.  The police truck was the first to arrive after 30 minutes and the victim was taken to Lifeguards Costa Rica, at Playa Carmen, where he received immediate medical attention and finally recovered.   Good job Daniel Lujan!!!!  All that happened here, while in Montezuma and Cabuya 3 people drowned the same day…  Good that we have lifeguards!!!!!
