Ocean Safety in El Salvador

We’re incredibly excited to see the first event of an amazing volunteer program in El Salvador kick off! This project is happening alongside the WSL surf contest and is all about promoting ocean safety and prevention efforts in the region.

We are good friends with ILA (International Lifeguard Alliance)—an awesome organization that collaborates with governments and nonprofits to bring lifesaving education and support where it's needed most. In El Salvador, ILA is a part of Surf City Water Safety—an initiative aligned with the national aquatic safety policies. Their mission? Coordinate lifeguard support for international surf contests like WSL and ISA championships, lead local surf rescue trainings, junior lifeguard programs, and implement drowning prevention campaigns in coastal communities.

We're extra proud because two amazing leaders—Emiliano and Ezequiel—who have both volunteered with us in Santa Teresa, are now head lifeguards on this project. Here’s a little message from them:

“We are part of an organization called ILA—International Lifeguard Alliance. In El Salvador, we work with the Surf City Water Safety program, supporting international surf tournaments and providing surf rescue training, lifeguard instruction, and prevention programs to local communities. As part of Santa Teresa Lifeguards, we’re proud to share knowledge and experiences to spread aquatic education around the world.”
This program is still ongoing and there will be two more opportunities to get involved later this year!
